Walk Cycle ideas

Our next animation assignment is the walkcycle, so I started to do some conceptual thinking about what I would animate.

This is a study of the movement of pelvis and shoulders in the walk:

Illustration

I couldnt decide if I wanted to have a nap or do some work for colege,
and luckily I decided to do some work and I colored my pencil drawing for illustration.
I haven't really come close to digital painting for a while, because I still don't know jack about color, but I think this turned out pretty cool.

Version 1:
The painting as done in photoshop without tweaks

Version 2:
I tried to get the full attention to the fish and the glowing candy,
and desaturated the witch-fish-thing. Don't know if it works any better though...

Hansel & Grettel Pencil Illustration

I think we have to hand in a colored piece for the assignment, so this will just act as a tonal study, I'll have to do it digital though to get the result I want, because I don't even have brushes for an acrylic.

Hansel & Grettel IV

Again change of idea...just was realising the similarities between this story and that crazy lure fish in the depth of the oceans, so turned them into fish for this one.
These are some studies, hopefully I'll come up with the final piece tonight.

I really can't watercolor to save my life, but as I've learned from my daily sketchblog, practice makes skill! I think I need to work harder then other artists to who it all just comes natural, or maybe it just seems like that...

Hansel & Grettel III

I'm trying to plan out the colors for this composition,
but I don't know enough about color. I want this to go from a cold blue/green
to warm colors (you know, the candy colors)...

More conceptual work for our visual language project to craete an illustration for a childrens' book. I'll be moving on to colorstudies now.

Wave (re-uploaded)

Thanks to Marc, I discovered vimeo, which keeps the video quality high when transferring to the net. So I decided to upload my wave progress again.

Whip Crack

New Project for animation, the whip crack.
Postponed it long enough, so finally sat down and drew out a quick rough.
I think it's gonna work...I hope :)

Turn up the CHIU tensity

15 minute jam with Marc McCabe from my class.

Mine:
Now I did touch mine up afterwards, because I really liked the anergy in the sketch.
So I spend about 25 minutes on it.

Marcs:

Thanks to Marc, I caught Bobby Chiu with his painting challenge,
one hour to try your best and recreate an existing painting.
Well I was a bit late so it was 45 minutes, but good fun.Highly recommend it to EVERYONE!

BUS-SIZED REPTILIAN BEAST IS DOWNTOWN COMMUTER TRANSPORT

Over at conceptart.org, this was the topic for the daily sketchgroup.
So I gave it a quick go! Started with some studies and then did a quick composition.
It's in a sense related to layout!

And here are some sketches I did for possible witchheads for my Hanzel and Gretel thing...

Hanzel and Grettel

Or however you spell their names..if it's a German story shouldnt the kid be called Hans and eat saucages all day? And what about the which, she lives in a house made of candy, she must be sticking to the floor by now, or be a fat huge witch with no teeth from eating all the candy...

This is just random... But I think it's a funny idea! :D

15 minute drawing jam

Drawing jam with classmate Marc McCabe

Life drawing

We have to go through all our life drawing euhmm..drawings and pick the 12 best, thinking about anatomy, line, weight, ... All the drawings I picked are from the last two life drawing sessions, I really started to see a HUGE improvement in my drawing since I started doing the daily one hour sketchbook. So I highly recommend anybody having trouble with life drawing to just draw EVERY day for at least one hour!!
