Brett Walkcycle WIP 2

Finally took some time again to work on this walkcycle animation, it's really rough and it's missing the inbetweens. I tells ya, it looks easier then it is!

And last but not least, a picture inspired by my crazy facebook friends:

Happy drinking Holidays

So I drew something up for the holidays in spirit of my work (since I'm spending most of my time there anyway). Here's some of my colleagues (in their chosen avatars) drinking and working!

The Balrog and Santa

Don't know why but I wanted to draw Santa in the Balrog's cave, Gandalf are Santa must be the same guys...It's one of those things you think to yourself, why did I not plan this properly haha

Walcycle Prep

Today I started the roughs on my walkcycle I'm doing on a friends' character. It's fun how everything from college is coming back real quickly, but still it's obvious animation is about experience. SO I'll have to practice, practice, practice! Underneath you'll see my initial sketch of him, and then I pencilled in one of the poses I drew for my walkcycle and put some colors on it for reference.

Edit: Did a rough of the walk:

Heroes4hire.com : Page 6&7 - project finished

So, did another two pages in one night, but I think the lack of sleep this night really played tricks on my mind. Page 6 looks like a freaking (bad) sketch, then again I do like the last panel of that. Basically I normally had scripted 4 pages, but I condensed it into 2. Which means I lost a lot of the jokes I had planned in, instead I just have the heroes dropping into the scene, and you know..the rest as they is history...
>Damn I just messed up that last page. Just imagine the fat kid saying "Timmmyyyyy"...and he was meant to look badass! NooooOOOOooOOOO!

Heroes 4 Hire.com Page 4 & 5 (updated)

So as the deadline draws ever closer, I need to work extra hard, pumped out another page and a half tonight, that leaves 3.5 more pages to do before Sunday! Nobody said it would be easy!

Personally I really liked the drawings I did, but to save time I choose to put the blacks in Photoshop, which doesn't really look that nice. I'm not really great at placing (never mind writing) text either :D

Page 5 introduces our main characters. Baldy just catches a glimpse of them as the elevator doors are closing. Still 3 pages to go but my enthusiasm is slowly fading to bring this to completion :(

December Pummel Challenge

Started my entry for my monthly match over at penciljack.org, anybody interested in going head to head against other COMIC artists let me know and I'll give you the details on how to join up. It's a great community and the challenges are all in good fun, it's more about sharing your work and developing your own styles. Anyway as every month I'm starting way too late, I had a little story in mind which will be about 8-10 pages, so since the deadline is 25/09 I have little time left. Anyway just posting my work in progress as usual :

[Edit: created additional cover with logo]

August Monthly Pummel Match

So this month's challenge was "thundercats". I don't know if anybody saw the new series? It's pretty cool! I mean it's a kidshow but for us animation fans it's still cool, right?

Here's the final piece:

July's Monthly Challenge

Here's July challenge over at penciljack.org. I don't really know anything about GI Joe, so far any fan this probably doesn't make any sense. But I drew Storm shadow about to kill his master and Snakesomething creeping up behind him for the upcoming revenge battle. As backgroundI used these super cool statues that guard some Chinese temples.

I lost the match, but it was fun drawing this.

Final Piece:

Catching up....

Wow, so it has once again been ages since I posted something! Well, no surprise I once moved to a new place again and yes started a new job as well! Went on a 2 week holiday in the world's most expensive country and finally upgraded to a smart phone! But as far as art's been going it's been going quiet. So here's a few catch up posts!

So to get back into the whole drawing business, I joined up at penciljack again to do some monthly matches between artists all for good sport. June's topic was Captain America.

Here's my piece:

I was digging through some old stuff on my PC and found this funny drawing... Once upon a time I got this opportunity to draw caricatures for an Irish company, I never drew any caricatures before so it was new unexplored ground and to be honest...not my thing :P

FF VII Tifa : part V - Low Poly Model Finished

So the low poly model is finished. The next step is to create the UVs so I can texture this baby :)

In all it's ungly un-smoothed glory:

And here's the smoothed version:
(I'm not so happy with the hair, but we'll have to see how the texturing looks. I have it on a separate layer anyway, so I can easily redo it)

FF VII Tifa : part IV - Getting there

I nearly spend a whole hour trying to glue the body together. I used the duplicate tool when modelling and when I tried to use the auto mirror geometry, Maya couldn't figure out which vertices fitted to which ones...It couldnt even replicate the crease info from one side to the other! But after a bit of frustration I got it all to work.

I still need to model some accesories but since they aren't symmetric, I'll need to model them seperatly. I still need to model the hair aswell which will cover her shoulders (which is why I didn't add any definition there).

I wanted to keep it fairly low poly, so I'll be doing most of the work in the texture phase and then off to rigging in the weekend hopefully!

This is my first real model I guess, so I can only hope the process wil speed up and I'll get better results with practice.

Here are some shots of the model so far:

FF VII Tifa: Part III - Modelling the head

Since I want to keep this low poly, I am not going to model te head in too great detail.
I won't include eyelids or eye balls, as I'm just going to paint a texture instead.

Roughing out the shapes:

And now refining it some more:

Even started doing the hair and added the earring:

FF VII Tifa : part II - Modelling the body

OK, so a few days late I finally started modelling the body.
I'm using boxmodelling and started with the hips and then started extruding the upper body and then the arms and legs and finished with the shoes and hands.

Here's the model so far in poly without smoother:

Here's a shot with smoothing turned on:

I'll do the head tomorrow and start working on clothes and details.

FF VII Tifa : Part I : model sheet

Ok, so I'm going to try and really start working a bit more in 3D! Jesus it's been so hard to motivate myself. But since I managed to get broke 2 weeks before the next payday, I guess I'll have some quiet time at home to do some work the next while.

First up I drew a modelsheet for Tifa of Final Fantasy VII, I didn't aim for a perfect replica but instead add a bit of my own flavour to the design. Tomorrow I'll start modelling the body from the waist. My aim is to keep it low poly keeping game standards in mind. Wish me good luck :)

one for the nerds

We have a newsletter at work, and somebody is doing an article about women in I.T. This is my take on that.

This is the oriiginal text, but it's maybe a bit much

Some more WIP on the head...

..and I don't mean whip cream!
