Happy Easter + Step by Step

Happy Easter everyone !

Step 1: Thumbnail
As you can see I had an original idea of a dead Chocolate Rhino with easter eggs instead of gut. But I scrapped that since this was only meant to be a sketch and not an illustration.
2) The cleaner pencils (which were scrapped)

3) Final Line and Composition:

4) I decided on the background colors first, which sets the overall mood:

5) Color :P

6) Finally I tweaked the colors to my liking by changing the Color Balance in Photoshop.

The pose didnt make any sense to me though, since originally she had two arms stretch to hold the weight of a giant chocolate egg. So I tweaked it to make a bit more sense afterwards.

Saturday Night Sketching

Things are pretty wild here on Saturday.....euhm.....loud music and drawing..that's about as wild as I get these days :D

Anyway...here are some initial expression tests for my little witch character. Will need some work to get these eye shapes to work:

Here's a random witch creation for absolutely no reason, always fun to just draw for the sake of it. As you can see the original thumbnail was much better, sort of killed when I drew over it :D

Also started some cat doodles for our second character, this little cat will transform into a monster, so initially I am thinking of a really cute cat.

And finally I was watching some Cowboy Bebop and tried to put down some colors as I saw them on tele...it's so hard to guess the colors without color picking. I couldn't get it right. I guess it's one of those muscles that needs to be trained!

Quick poses

God knows how long I'll be able to do some concepts on top of work and a course I'm doing, but as long as there is gas in the tank, let's keep it up :)

Here are 2 poses:

More Wizard concepts

Exploring the character further while trying out some coloring styles. I was thinking about what this character loves doing. She loves flying! Free like a bird! her dog doesn't enjoy it as much as she does though :P

A sketch a day keeps the competition at bay

Will try to do at least a little drawing a day of this character until I figured out who she is.

Here she is studying writings from an ancient book of spells.

Witch concept + Step by Step

This is the first of many concepts for a little character I'm thinking of. Just doodled and invented on the spot, which is quite nice to do sometimes. The silhouette however is pretty terrible on this :P The biggest problem would be to separate the book strapped on her back, so we can make out her small torso and make sure the hair doesn't create a shape by intersecting with the book.

There's also some parts of clothing hanging down that don't really make sense and it's distracting from the legshapes. I do like her hair at least :D

Also forgot to post this drawing from a few days back..pretty random really :D

Run + Step by Step

Step 1 Thumbnail:
Step 2 Clean Pencil:

Step 3: Flat Colors: I picked some colors that go well together (purple-yellow mainly).

Step 4: Start shading, I usually color pick the local color and then pick a darker version.
I set the brush at 50% with pressure sensitivity. Mostly I shade one patch with light pressure, and then go in around the edges with a harder touch.

Step 5: Do the same thing for everything :P I then also pick a lighter shade and might add in some highlights.

Sketch

Random evening sketch to cap the day.

Another bad sketch...need more practice drawing figures form imagination...this is hard!

Coloring Lineart using the "clipping mask"

Not really a good example as I rushed through this sketch, but it's a good method for coloring your lineart.
