This is a different sequence. I picked it because it's a conversation between 4 people, but the focus in on the tension between Lester and his fantasy girl. I wanted to see what the cut and camera choices were:

STORYBOARDING WK4 : FILM STUDIES AMERICAN BEAUTY
I haven't posted up anything for week 3 of my course because we were writing a script we'll use for storyboarding next week. Let's just say it's in a rough stage at the moment although I am pretty excited to bring it to life in visuals.
This week we have to do some film studies, focussing on the cinematography and the cutting between shots. I watched Birdman and American Beauty, both fantastic movies. In my next session I'll change the way I draw these though with simplified lines and characters.

My brain is a cheesepot with no ideas this week :P
But it's important to put your pride aside and do whatever the best is that comes up :/

STORYBOARD WK 1: POST IT & Sketch
Random canteen sketch, where I then tried to draw his face from different angles:
Some scribbly POST-IT drawings just to try and get the brain to loosen up.

STORYBOARD WK1: Sketches
So I'm basically trying to draw at any opportunity I get. Here's a varied mix of:
Digital studies from a posebook:
Below some sketching while watching tv (not pausing) just doodling (hence terrible :P):
More tv sketches and those observational sketches in the canteen:
This was also in break using good old google search for inspiration:

STORYBOARD WK1 : Homework
I normally only post my life drawing on my other blog, but since this is part of my course homework, I thought I'd post it up here.
We stayed over at a friends' place this weekend to look after her dog, while we spent a lot of time walking in the snow (and mud) covered hills. I took the opportunity to do a bit of sketching of her dog in the house. There are a lot of stinkers on the page, which is a good sign. Good drawings means no learning :)

STORYBOARD WK1: Figure Drawing Exercice 01
I am doing a storyboarding course with CGMA and wanted to share this great exercise they gave as an optional homework:
The exercise is to draw from a picture with a timer for 1 minute, I just drew from a gig recording of 'Priests' on youtube. I love the sassy energy of this frontwoman.
My lines were a bit crude, so then I tried to do a couple with some more flow:
After this it's time to switch to 1 minute poses but without reference, trying to use the character you've been drawing and use it as inspiration for poses. 1 minute is NOT LONG! haha
I then wanted to put some nicer lines on a couple:
These last ones definitely better:

It's all about practice! If you put in the time you'll be great, if you're like me and you wander in and out of practice, you'll just need to put in some more work :D
