Caricature sketch 2

Another one, they are just really fun to do, even though this one turned out bad for several reasons:

-Reference:  This was a very low res image of somebody I have never even spoken to. There was  no interesting light, couldn't zoon in to get any details.
- Poor brushwork. I think because the reference image had such little info to go by, I started brushing things up randomly to make it interesting. But I need to have less strokes with more information.

But making bad images is just as important as making good ones. As long as we're critical about our work, and learn from it! :)

Caricature Practice

This is a one hour caricature attempt. One of my talented friends was kind enough to offer his mug for some fun :)

Went out of my comfort zone and did a caricature, or at least I tried to :P
I kept separate layers so you can see how I approached it:

Schoolism course with Bobby Chiu: Digital painting Lesson 2

This is my coloring job of the Bobby Chiu's "The Stand", I diverted from his color scheme to make it my own. I mean I do believe in copying his methods, but deciding on colors is just as important. I think I did an ok job, but I really left the assignment until too late. Maybe I wouldn't have done more, but I always like to go back to my work the next day to make final changes..so didn't get a chance to do that this time.

I've got to say though, if I didn't follow the video there would be no way for me to figure out his working methods. I'm not saying you can't achieve the result in any other way, but I wouldn't have come up with his method by looking at his paintings. So very pleased with the course so far! The first two weeks we covered things I thought I already knew, but I learned lots of new things!

EDIT: Got my feedback today, and really happy with a 5/5 from Bobby :P
Really glad he took the time to answer some of my questions I sent him in my assignment feedback. Motivated to work on my next assignment :)

Schoolism course with Bobby Chiu: Digital painting Lesson 1

I enrolled for the Bobby Chiu digital painting course, this is my first assignment which I found quite tricky. It really forced me to change from my usual routine and I learned a lot already, I think I could paint on this forever. It just never feels quite right, I think it's because I'd need to do some actual painting of bodybuilders to have some real life reference for how I want this to look.

Anyway, I am looking forward to Bobby Chiu's paint over and critique :) And of course the second lesson! I'll be posting my progress here and of course I will be using the new stuff I learn in my own personal work. So hopefully you'll be seeing quite an evolution of the next coming weeks!

Leaving The Stream

Tomorrow is my last day at work. Everybody always writes up an email saying goodbye and thanking everybody. I thought I'd do something personal and create a sketch to say goodbye.
