Randy Cunningham's The Ninja by Karen Rohde Johansson

I wanted to post some images of a sculpture I commissioned an artist at work to do for me, the artist is Karen Rohde Johansson. And you can check out her work on her blog : LINK

I'm very proud to own this handmade sculpture, I really love the design of the ninja and Karen did a fantastic job in recreating the character in 3d. The pose she designed really works brilliantly from all directions.

Doodle our way into May

I took a couple days off from drawing, but had to just doodle a little bit in Photoshop this evening. I might also start doing some picture studies again to allow some new information into my brain and hopefully remedy those wonky sketches in the future :D

It's funny how certain colors are associated with even fictional characters. Just because the outfit is largely green-ish, I immediately think of wood elf? Same outfit in blue-ish works better for a wizard.

GIant

Fairly random sketch that I turned into a giant holding our little wizard... check out those anatomically incorrect legs! Yikes..

Happy Easter + Step by Step

Happy Easter everyone !

Step 1: Thumbnail
As you can see I had an original idea of a dead Chocolate Rhino with easter eggs instead of gut. But I scrapped that since this was only meant to be a sketch and not an illustration.
2) The cleaner pencils (which were scrapped)

3) Final Line and Composition:

4) I decided on the background colors first, which sets the overall mood:

5) Color :P

6) Finally I tweaked the colors to my liking by changing the Color Balance in Photoshop.

The pose didnt make any sense to me though, since originally she had two arms stretch to hold the weight of a giant chocolate egg. So I tweaked it to make a bit more sense afterwards.

Saturday Night Sketching

Things are pretty wild here on Saturday.....euhm.....loud music and drawing..that's about as wild as I get these days :D

Anyway...here are some initial expression tests for my little witch character. Will need some work to get these eye shapes to work:

Here's a random witch creation for absolutely no reason, always fun to just draw for the sake of it. As you can see the original thumbnail was much better, sort of killed when I drew over it :D

Also started some cat doodles for our second character, this little cat will transform into a monster, so initially I am thinking of a really cute cat.

And finally I was watching some Cowboy Bebop and tried to put down some colors as I saw them on tele...it's so hard to guess the colors without color picking. I couldn't get it right. I guess it's one of those muscles that needs to be trained!
