SEQUENCE STUDY-ish

So somebody pointed me to this show on Netflix called Dorohedoro, and it is pretty freaking awesome. Cool looking characters, amazing backgrounds and lots of blood :D

Some reason I decided to do a quick thumbnail study of a sequence. Mainly it was about how satisfying a punch was because of 1 shot (Panel 13)

Storyboarding is a lot like animating, It's the old principle of Anticipation and follow through. That close up really soaking in that punch connecting with the face, and then BAM .. release and follow through in the next shot. Interestingly, in shot 14 the body is already far away form the fist, so technically it doesn't hook, but it feels awesome. I think missing information is so important for things to feel good.

also note that the camera follows the movement for emphasis, until he hits the wall.

Mannikin Time

Still trying to do this daily. I should put some new information into my brain soon, but for now enjoying trying this exercise:

TURNING POINT - Design Sheet

So I found a great title for my vampire story: TURNING POINT.
Anyway I did a design sheet based on a character sheet from a show, for practice :

and still practicing drawing this mannikin:

And here are 30 second studies using it:

Based on a turnaround sheet, I tried doing a turn around for my own character:

Mannikin + Akira Heads

Sticking with these mannikin warm ups still, and doing some more head stuies using the simple frame. My new motto is SIMPLE and BASIC.

Another head

Same technique, this time doing a Foxy Brown type character.

Character Head Turnaround

So after doing those anime studies, I decided I'd try and apply the same method to a recent character I drew. And I think it works quite nice to keep a sort of consistent and simple head design.
