BIG HERO 6 _ Scene study part 2

 Continuing the scene :

If you need a 2-shot, it's always efficient to cut to the character who is already in place in a single shot, and then have the other character walk in.

Below we cut to a reverse, Hiro will need to walk to a different location so we need to establish where he is (that's why we have a shot showing everybody ), we then track with the character until he is screen right of the group and close to where we need him to be for a story beat.

Frame Study : Rough to clean

A LITTLE HOW TO, OR HOW I DO MY STUDIES:

1. First I draw the perspective grid, then I draw the BG, THEN I drew my characters shapes/gestures in red:

2: Now I draw the characters over it:

3: Fill the characters with white to stand out clearly from the BG:

ANOTHER ONE:

1) Look at how clear these simple stick figures are.

2) We could just have 40% opacity on the BG and the characters 100%, it's clear enough I think.

3) But I think a grey tone and white fill for the characters is even clearer?

BIG HERO 6 - SCENE STUDY

I think if you only do one exercise as a storyboard artist. It should be to draw boards from scenes of films you like. You are studying staging, framing, cutting, camera moves, but you are also drawing storyboards. poses, acting. It's a full and tasty meal :)
